Discovering the rocks that have shaped the landscape
The Woodland House is located on the border of two of the main geological areas of France:
- to the East, the Paris Basin with its horizontal stacking of limestone , chalk, sand and clay layers, dating from the Secondary and Tertiary eras,
- to the west, the Armorican Massif with its almost vertical bars of sandstone and shale, dating from the Primary era, resting on an even older base (Precambrian).
Geo-Hike nr. 1 (see tab at the bottom of the page) is one of the 50 actions selected by the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park for its call for initiatives "Tell me about the earth": three sessions are currently scheduled for Saturday 27 May and 17 June 2023, and Thursday 27 July 2023, but you can register for all weekends from May to September via the "Booling" tab.
Through guided walks through the forest of Perseigne, you will discover the relationship between geology and landscapes: escarpments of faults, bars of resistant sandstone, valleys carved in soft schist...
You will leave with a leaflet explaining the local geology in its national context, focused on your own geological walk.
